Thoughts on Yokohama

My heart feels lighter, having handed in my two-weeks notice of resignation letter, yet heavier, unsure of every step I am to take after this moment. With my limited vocabulary, I can only describe my feelings as “ワクワク” (Waku waku), the feeling of excitement and anticipation, but also “不安” (Fuan), the sensation of anxiety.

It has been determined that I will stay in Yokohama City (横浜市), of the Kanagawa Prefecture (神奈川県). While most individuals will comment on Tokyo and Osaka, Yokohama tends to be forgotten from discussion, despite being the second-largest city present in the nation of Japan.

Incidentally, Vancouver and Yokohama have been sister cities since 1965. From one major waterfront city to another, I can only hope that my transition comes easily. If not, well, sucks to be me, and you’ll read all about my woes on this blog.

As a fan of the Yakuza (or 龍が如く/Ryuu ga Gotoku, literally meaning “Like a Dragon”) series, it is noteworthy that the latest entry to the series Yakuza: Like a Dragon (or RGG 7), and the detective spin-off, Lost Judgment, take place in a parallel city, Isezaki Ijincho, based on Isezakicho of Yokohama, which just so happens to be a little further south from where I intend to stay. Undoubtedly, I will be scouring the city for notable landmarks.

When things finally fall into place and enter motion, I will be sure to share all the city has to offer, and all that I can take!
